Artist: Carol Hapke
Story: In this image the artist represents and area of traditional country belonging to her mother. Curving through a rocky ridge at Yirralalem is a creek called Warwoolem. This is frill necked lizard gerrdan country made during the dreamtime. At the centre of the image in the curved part of the creek is a freshwater spring. The textured markings represent the marks made by Gerrdan as he clawed at the hillside.
The artist lives close by and is a guardian for this country. In this painting I tried to capture the glow of the country at the end of the day when the light is soft and glowing. We call this last light Jooroongoom.
